Western Sarpy County to expand transportation network as region grows [Video]

SARPY COUNTY, Neb. (WOWT) – The Metropolitan Area Planning Agency is introducing its Western Sarpy County Transportation Enhancement Plan, also known as WE-STEP.

Live now, is the enhancement plan’s website for public feedback, which will be available online from March 25 to April 8.

WE-STEP is described as a transportation strategy to identify a future regional transportation network and how it will fit in with plans for development.

MAPA is working with the city officials in Gretna, Papillion, and Springfield to execute the planning and project.

“We’ve really got to get out ahead of it or we’re just going to be reacting and responding instead of proactive,” said Paula Dennison, Gretna’s city administrator. “The roads from Gretna going back east and north and south they don’t stop at Gretna corporate limits.”

It’s a plan that takes the region into 2050.

“That growth will happen in stages, so what the plan will provide is a framework,” said Jim Boerner, MAPA transportation planner. “Some of these roads don’t exist, some …
