CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) – A Charleston County teacher is helping her students learn about eating healthy while saving money.

Debbie Sonnycalf is a teacher at Charleston Charter School for Math and Science. For the past four years, Sonnycalf has taught personal finance, web development and design, and as of recently, a culinary club.

She says personal finance is one of her favorite subjects because she feels it’s one of the most important classes her students will ever take as a young adult or an adult. She says personal finance and culinary tie in together. It teaches her students to be financially aware and at the same time, become more conscious of the foods they are eating on a daily basis.
