San Diego adds new shelter beds as Golden Hall closes [Video]

Around 650 beds will be removed due to developments at Golden Hall, Father Joe’s Paul Mirabile Center, Rachel’s Promise Shelter, and temporary shelter closures.

SAN DIEGO —  As San Diego prepares for the closure of several of its homeless shelters at the end of the month, the city will soon open new shelter locations and opportunities, it was announced Monday.

The city’s Homelessness Strategies and Solutions Department, San Diego Housing Commission and Regional Task Force on Homelessness updated a short- term shelter plan to the San Diego City Council on Monday, revealing 263 new shelter beds coming online.

“These additions to our shelter system have ensured that no one impacted by the closure of Golden Hall or the changes at the Paul Mirabile Center will return to the streets,” said Mayor Todd Gloria. “Even as we navigate challenging budget constraints, we are continuing the work we’re doing to address homelessness.”
