Fair-trade pioneer Ten Thousand Villages embraces e-commerce, shutters Lancaster location [Video]

AKRON, Pa. — Ten Thousand Villages, a pioneer retailer in the fair-trade movement, announced Thursday it will close 13 company-owned stores, including its location in Intercourse, Lancaster County.

The closures are part of a shift in focus to e-commerce growth and wholesale partnerships, the Lancaster County-based company said. The company will also restructure its support office as part of a strategic move that will help the organization adapt to grow digital distribution sales channels in support of its effort to collaborate with artisans in underserved communities.
