FACT FINDERS: Which stores closed in 2024? [Video]

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – Walgreens is the latest chain to announce big closures.

The company plans to close 25% of its 8,600 drug stores – 500 of them by the end of this fiscal year. Walgreens hasn’t disclosed which of those stores might be in southern Arizona, but 13 Fact Finders took a broader look at closing businesses near us.

This is certainly not a sight unique to southern Arizona: Stores with household names, shutting their doors. Companies are re-evaluating store performance across the country.

Much of this is due to Americans’ changing buying habits, especially online shopping. Sometimes, it’s because of losses from shoplifting, or lots of other reasons.

We’ve had some high-profile closures in Tucson, including all four Big Lots locations, and Sam Levitz closing its last stores after 71 years. Sears is a name of the past in Arizona – not a single store remains in our state. Walmart …
