What Would Neil Patel Do If He Owned Your Website (And You Should Start Doing Too) [Video]

If I owned your business, I would do things differently. Hey, everyone, I’m Neil Patel, and today I’m going to break down what Neil Patel would do if he owned your business or website. Look, there’s six questions I would ask if I owned your business. These questions will open up new opportunities and make you grow your traffic and sales. So let’s dive right in. RESOURCES & LINKS: ____________________________________________A Step-by-Step SEO Strategy For Beginners | Getting Traffic With Old and New Websites: https://youtu.be/Eh6nlUyqP4MThe Easiest Way to Get More SEO Traffic: https://youtu.be/IHl9xb9VmJwUbersuggest: https://neilpatel.com/ubersuggest/____________________________________________Question number one, do you have a winning product or service? And here’s what I mean by this, no matter how good of a marketer you are or a business owner you are, if your product or service isn’t amazing, you’re not going to do well in the long run. And one way that you can see if you’re going in the right direction is by doing a NPS survey. So NPS stands for Net Promoter Score. It pretty much tells you how good you’re doing. The higher the number, the better. And what I would do is, as you’re doing this NPS, keep getting feedback. So if you have low scores and people aren’t satisfied with your product or service, ask them why, ask them what you can improve. Because, if overall in the long run, if you continue to improve your product and service and iterate it, you won’t have the best score right away from day one. But over time, as you improve it, what you’ll find is you will get way more word-of-mouth sales. The second question that I would ask is do you have a proven sales process in place? Look, I don’t care how good someone is at marketing, sales really does win at the end of the day. Even if your product is better or you’re first to market, if you suck at sales, you’re not spending enough time in that, you’re not going to do as well. The third question that I would ask is have you built a marketing funnel? Look, in marketing, costs have continually gone up. Marketing is no longer affordable. It keeps going higher and higher over time, and that’s not really going to change. But how do you make the numbers work with marketing continually going up in expenses? Whether it’s paid ads or SEO, you still got to pay for people, time, sometimes you have to pay for the ads spots, but marketing is going up. Well, the way you counteract this is by improving your conversion rate, and that’s things like testing your button color, or copy or images, and you should be doing that. The fourth question is, do you collect leads? I don’t care if you’re B2B, B2C, e-commerce, service, you need to collect leads. What I mean by a lead is at least collect the email address. If I have an e-commerce site, when someone leaves, I may offer them a coupon code, offer a discount if they put an email address.Fifth question is, is your website minimally optimized from a on-page perspective? Because, if you haven’t really optimized everything you need to fix that. So what I would do is head over to Ubersuggest and put in your URL. Once you put in your URL in the left-hand navigation, go to the Site Audit report. The site audit report will break everything down from the SEO standpoint and then they’ll show you your errors. It’ll show you even things like Google Core Vitals information, like load time, how well you’re doing, what you need to end up fixing. The sixth questions that you need to ask yourself before you’re getting organic traffic, what’s your traffic strategy to getting sales? The best approach is typically going to be the outbound sales, paid advertising, partnerships, affiliates. All those kinds of things work extremely well. So let’s say there’s these e-commerce development shops that are redoing people’s Shopify site or big commerce site. We’ll work with these dev shops because they’re like, hey, these guys have this traffic, they have this big e-commerce store. They need people to drive more traffic and fine tune it. So then we’ll partner up with these dev shops, And then, on the flip side, we may have customers that we’re driving a lot of traffic to. These e-commerce sites are getting bigger, and we’re just like, hey, your site’s a mess. You need to clean up your code. We recommend talking to that dev shop over there. So it’s a win-win situation. And if you follow those tactics that I just broke down in this video, or you just ask yourself these questions, you’ll find more opportunities for you to grow. Social Media Marketing Tips For Every Brand (And What You Should Avoid at All Costs) [Video]

Everyone wants to post about stuff and link to their own website or link to somewhere else that’s not on Facebook. Facebook hates that because if you link to another site, that means that person is going off of Facebook and the chance of them coming back and clicking on an ad are slim to none. RESOURCES & LINKS: ____________________________________________Simple Social Media Patterns You Need To Know to Grow Your Reach, Followers, and Engagement: https://youtu.be/SiPvYXsiA_sSocial Media Strategies To Boost Your SEO: https://youtu.be/UlmlzJTBL8MUbersuggest: https://neilpatel.com/ubersuggest/____________________________________________So from a personal brand perspective, a lot of times people usually feel comfortable with one platform. I call it repurposing content. They make their content for one platform like Instagram, and then just repurpose it on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, et cetera. What are some ways that people can build their personal brand outside of social media, whether it’s podcasts or email newsletters, like what are the other things that people could be doing? So outside of social media, some of the things you can do to build your brand and your platform is you need to get out there on your own website. See social media has algorithms. I know LinkedIn and TikTok are great right now, and you can go viral, but that’s not going to last forever. You controlling your own destiny is super important. So everyone should have their own website and just create a blog. You can do it with WordPress, takes literally a few minutes, a click of button with most hosting platforms, get your domain name and just start creating content, whether that’s articles, videos.Start sending out text messages every time you have a phone number. When you do these types of things, you’ll start building up your brand over time. And it’s called the rule of seven. When someone sees or interacts with your brand seven times, they’re much more likely to evangelize you, buy from you, increase your word of mouth awareness by telling their friends about you. So all you really need to do is just create your own website and then leverage the social platforms while they’re driving traffic and then push that traffic to your website. So that way you can control that audience and not be relying on those social platforms.I know some people are very passionate about certain subjects. I tend to avoid them because what happens is you start polarizing, in which some people will do business with you and some people won’t.But the one thing I will tell you is if you start talking about these sensitive topics, like religion, politics, there’s a good chance you can be a little bit off putting to a certain audience and you could potentially lose business. So you roll the dice with that and that’s why I don’t talk about any of that stuff online. So what about the blogs, forums, Reddit, those types of platforms. Should be, people become experts inside of like, embed themselves in the internet in that fashion? You can, if your business is growing, and you’re doing millions and millions of dollars and you have multiple people in your marketing department, I highly recommend it. If you’re running a small marketing team with one or two, three people, I wouldn’t recommend it.So I would recommend actually going for those smaller sites first, and then eventually if you have extra time go after the “Inc.s” the “Huffington Post”. what you’ll find is it gives you A, brand awareness. The second thing is it adds credibility. The third thing is, is it also drives business. The first thing people need to realize about Facebook is they make money by people clicking on ads. It’s that simple. Facebook hates that because if you link to another site, that means that person is going off of Facebook and the chance of them coming back and clicking on an ad are slim to none. They want more videos to compete with YouTube. They want more live content to compete with the television stations. So Instagram has quite a few different things. And the one thing I would recommend is if you’re trying to post Stories also consider going live, because if you go live and you do interviews, like Dan has a lot of followers, I have some followers, probably not nowhere near as many as him. Effective Growth Hacking Tips to Increase Your Traffic [Video]

I’m getting super creative on how I do growth and I always have been. It’s just the way my mind works. So I still have a very much growth hacking mentality, even in my personal life, right? Where when I’m dealing with my daughter, how can I end up getting her to do what I want, instead of crying, quicker and easier. RESOURCES & LINKS: ____________________________________________A Step-by-Step SEO Strategy For Beginners | Getting Traffic With Old and New Websites: https://youtu.be/Eh6nlUyqP4MThe Easiest Way to Get More SEO Traffic: https://youtu.be/IHl9xb9VmJwUbersuggest: https://neilpatel.com/ubersuggest/____________________________________________So I look for shortcuts or ways to get what I’m looking for quicker and easier, and they may not all be conventional. For example, this year we’ll release SEO automation in Ubersuggest and we’ll release email marketing in Ubersuggest, where you can do all email. And I’ll give you the example of email marketing, email marketing in Ubersuggest will be a hundred percent free, unlimited contacts, unlimited sends. Whether you send 10 emails a month, or a million emails a month, it’ll be a hundred percent free.So like I look at it as, to me, that’s a better creative way to grow. For example, did you know MailChimp sometimes, for their CPC, pays up to $50 a click on Google? And you’re getting a click, it doesn’t mean that you get a sign up. So how many clicks you can get to a sign up? And a sign up for MailChimp is a free sign up, and then, eventually, someone can pay, right? And I’m like, wait, it’s just cheaper if I just give it all away for free. To me, that’s the example of growth hacking. We’re even doing something in Ubersuggest which will be, there’s some people who want the premium features that can’t afford it, so we’re going to do something where it says you can invite X amount of people and you can get a free month of Ubersuggest, but that’s been done, right? That’s an example of growth hacking.I’m going to get even a little bit more creative, where I’m going to do something where it says if you invite X amount of people, you can get a free month or you can keep inviting, and if you hit a certain number of invites, I’ll give you a SEO site audit, where my team will do the audit for you, or we’ll write a blog post, or we’ll do manual outreach and we’ll try to build you links, right? Why can’t I actually give them more tangible stuff that’s much more value? Have a free month of Ubersuggest, or would you rather have someone write a good blog post for you? You would probably take the blog post, right? because that costs real money. So I’m getting super creative on how I do growth and I always have been. It’s just the way my mind works. Simple Social Media Patterns You Need To Know to Grow Your Reach, Followers, and Engagement [Video]

When you publish a video on YouTube, make sure you share it with your friends, tell them to leave a comment, do email blast, push notification blast, text message it out, whatever you can to get those views in the first hour. Because when you do that, you’re much more likely to rank higher on YouTube. RESOURCES & LINKS: ____________________________________________Social Media Strategies To Boost Your SEO: https://youtu.be/UlmlzJTBL8M7 Marketing Trends to Help you DOMINATE Social Media in 2021: https://youtu.be/10IuyBkrB7oUbersuggest: https://neilpatel.com/ubersuggest/____________________________________________In general, most people don’t realize this, but Google makes eight to nine algorithm changes per day on average, most of them are very small. And that’s a lot to keep up with. But it’s that age-old marketing technique that continually drives revenue that a lot of us take for granted. And if you want to do really well in 2021, and in the future even beyond that, there’s a few things that I would recommend doing. The first is you need more people to link to you. And everyone knows link building. Link building is one website linking to another’s and they say the more links you have, the higher you rank in Google. But we’ve noticed a shift in their algorithm in which you don’t need a ton of links these days. And then the next thing that no one’s really focusing on, and this one is big, is Page Experience. So, they have this algorithm update coming out in 2021 called Page Experience. And they’re first rolling it out with mobile. It’s unknown if they’ll roll it out to desktop, but I bet they eventually will. So, they’re starting to look at the experience, are users actually looking at the content, going to multiple pages? Or are they just clicking the back button and going to the next result because they’re not finding what they’re looking for. So don’t just optimize for a quote, unquote algorithm. If you optimize for the user experience, in the long run, you’ll rank better. And the last tip that I’ll give you, so when you think about the social web, there’s a pattern. There’s Facebooks, the YouTubes, the LinkedIns, and the list goes on and on. The biggest player out there in the social space is Facebook, which also owns Instagram. And there’s this pattern that happens on most social networks. They’re very generous, they get you a ton of organic reach and the moment they have a ton of users, they’re like, hmm, it’s time for us to make more money. We want you to spend more on ads, or we’re going to crush your reach. Now there’s three social networks where it’s really easy to get reach from. One is LinkedIn, one is TikTok, and the other is YouTube. So these three networks, although I don’t really spend much on TikTok because it’s more B2C, but LinkedIn and YouTube, I’m very heavy on. And with LinkedIn, we’re just posting content all the time because if you think about it, it’s the underdog. So, if you just create content on there, you’re going to get love. The last step that I looked up and I don’t know how accurate it is now, but it was a few months ago. I was finding an article that was saying something like roughly only 3% of users on LinkedIn are creating content, only 3%. So they’re like starving for this content, they just want more, so they’ll say, if you want to be part of that 3% and you want to give us content, we’ll just show it to a lot of people because we’re the underdog. Instagram and Facebook, you know, all the other platforms, they don’t have that issue where a very, very small percentage is only creating content. So, just go out there and put anything on there and you’ll do well. I know that sounds bad, but it’s the reality. 7 Essential Skills Digital Content Writers Need [Video]

What you need to do as a writer is, you need to have concise statements.RESOURCES & LINKS: ____________________________________________How to Write Blog Posts That Consistently Rank Well on Google: https://youtu.be/CjzjUbA8nzAHow to Boost Your SEO Traffic with Sleeper Content (And Stop Promoting Worthless Content): https://youtu.be/kUih7iP-YZYHow to Come Up With Content Ideas That Drive Traffic: https://youtu.be/7l5btHy2rxQUbersuggest: https://neilpatel.com/ubersuggest/____________________________________________So if you’re a writer, you’re writing to either draw more attention in and eventually convert those eyeballs and that attention into leads, customers, right? Google analytics tells you what content they like, what they don’t, what’s causing them to bounce. It won’t explicitly tell you what’s causing them to bounce, but you can make some educational based guess based on the data that they’re providing. It’ll also tell you the type of content that converts the best, the type of content that doesn’t. So that way, when you’re writing, you can write with the end goal in mind, which is eventually you want to have a conversion, whether that’s someone buying right then and there, or turning into lead, and it’ll provide you that data. If you continually write and write blindly, and you write based off what people tell you is amazing, do your friends do, that’s all great and fine and dandy, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that what you’re writing is going to convert into revenue. So there’s over a billion blogs on the internet. That’s roughly one for every seven people. There’s a lot of blogs. The amount of content that’s being pushed out each day is so overwhelming. We don’t really need much more content, everyone’s regurgitate the same information. If you don’t have a strategy, how are you going to be different? How are you going to stand out? How are you going to convert people? What topics are you going to cover that solve the pinpoints of your customers? If you don’t have a strategy in place and a plan of action, then all you’re going to be doing is producing content that doesn’t really do anything at the end of the day. Even if you think that this is better based off of analytics data, but you don’t have the strategy and how you’re going to attack that, and how you’re going to go forward, then you’re just wasting your time and energy. So the first step in this strategy is attracting the eyeballs. And what you would want to do is see what’s in your space that’s popular. So there’s a tool called Ubersuggest that I have, and you can use it for free. You can type in a keyword or a phrase and click on when you’re in Ubersuggest you want to go to the content ideas report, it’ll tell you what’s popular based off of social shares, like Facebook and Pinterest. Search traffic, what ranks well in Google and how much traffic does it get and what keywords is a rank for. And the third thing is links. What other sites are linking to it because they like the content? So you want to look at the topics and the exact headline that are doing well, and it’ll also show you in the tool, what doesn’t do well. So you want to more so focus on creating content that’s popular on what people like. Now, you don’t want to just copy that and regurgitate what’s already existing on the web, but you want to do something that’s better than that. Think of skyscrapers. And in the United States we may have the Empire State Building, then you may have someone in Dubai who’s like, ah, we’re going to create the Burj Khalifa, I think was what it’s called. And it’s going to be even taller, it’s going to be double the height. I’m making it up. You’re going to have somebody in China say, we’re going to do triple the height, we’re going to have our buildings go into the clouds. The point I’m making is, you want your content to stand out and be unique, go above and beyond what people are already doing. because if something’s already popular and have worked well, if you do something that’s double, triple better, you’re much more likely to have your content do really well too. 3 SEO Trends in Automation for 2021 (Trend #3 Is Coming Sooner Than You Think) [Video]

People are starting to use AI and machine learning much more. And everyone’s always talked about machine learning and AI, and it’s the buzz, and you can have computers write content for you, so you don’t have to write content as a marketer or when you’re putting products online. And I have to say, the quality still isn’t there, but we’re really close. RESOURCES & LINKS: ____________________________________________A Step-by-Step SEO Strategy For Beginners | Getting Traffic With Old and New Websites: https://youtu.be/Eh6nlUyqP4M10 Post Pandemic Marketing Tips for Small Businesses | Turn Your Business Around Through Marketing: https://youtu.be/XPyEjqwy-JYShopify: https://www.shopify.com/Ubersuggest: https://neilpatel.com/ubersuggest/____________________________________________The big thing which everyone knows is everything’s moving online. And if you see what people are talking about, a lot of people are just like, “Yeah, everyone’s buying online be of COVID, but after COVID, everything’s going to go back to normal. And I have this conception, and a lot of people also agree with this, but I have this conception that what would’ve happened five years from now of more people adapting online, it just got pushed forward due to COVID. So that’s the first big trend that we’re seeing. McKinsey has this whole video and report about this kind of stuff. It’s quite interesting. They actually even ran commercials, I think, on YouTube about it. But you know, before COVID, commerce… When I’m talking about commerce, I’m not just talking about Amazon, I’m talking about commerce, like accounting, people getting business online, all that kind of stuff. Roughly, 12% of commerce was done online. The rest was done offline. It was still a really small portion. Now you got people like my parents who are just like, “Wow, we knew about Amazon, but we’re buying, it’s cheaper than going to Target,” or cheaper than going to Ralph’s, or wherever they go to buy stuff. And they’re like, “And sometimes, they deliver it in the same day for free.” There’s prime and stuff. My parents don’t get the concept that are on my accounts, so they think it’s quote-unquote free. But I’ve had it like 100 or $200 or whatever it is.And so that’s the first big trend. The second big trend that we’re seeing is people are starting to use AI and machine learning much more. And everyone’s always talked about machine learning and AI, and it’s the buzz. And you can have computers write content for you, so you don’t have to write content as a marketer or when you’re putting products online. Now, I’m not saying you can automate everything, but you can take out a lot of aspects and have a lot of these tools do things for you that we would’ve done manually. And I think that’s what’s amazing. Here’s a good example of this, I have this SEO tool called Ubersuggest, and you can use a lot of the tool for free. The majority of the tools are actually given away for free. And I gave my team initiative for 2021. See, when people do SEO, you have to go and modify your code and type in all this stuff. And it gets complicated for most people, and they don’t have staff, or they don’t know how to code. And I gave my team objective, and I said, “In 2021, I want it where someone can put a JavaScript;” just like you do a Google Analytics, you put this little code on your website, and it tells you how many visits you get in Google analytics; and I’m telling them I want people to be able to put up a little code on their website. If they’re on WordPress or something, they just click a button, and they install a plugin. Like make it super simple. With the Shopify, same thing. And do it where that little code can modify all their other code on their website, so they don’t actually have to make the majority of their own SEO changes. So imagine saying, instead of telling your developer, “Hey, go make all these changes.” What happens if the tool did 60, 70, 80% for you? 100% is going to be tough right now, but let’s say 60, 70, 80%? You may not get as good as results compared to if you did manually, but if the tool did the majority of it, you’re better off than doing nothing. And then you can always have a human go do the remaining portion that can be done in an automatic way. And you’re going to be better off because you just saved money, and you did it more efficiently. The Role of Creativity in Digital Marketing [Video]

And that’s why in marketing, I think one of the best skillsets is creativity.RESOURCES & LINKS: ____________________________________________Digital Marketing Trends You Can’t Ignore in 2021: https://youtu.be/BjKZ7cNt5roHow to Navigate Digital Marketing: https://youtu.be/Kcn9M_pqyMQUbersuggest: https://neilpatel.com/ubersuggest/____________________________________________When you look at the organic reach, it’s harder and harder, but, here’s the thing, there’s new platforms that always come around and make it easier to get rich, for example, I was on Clubhouse, literally right before we ended up doing this podcast interview, okay? And I started with a hundred and something followers, I joined a room talk for literally 30 seconds and now I have 400 and something followers. Now, is it going to be that easy to gain followers on Clubhouse, if they maintain their popularity and their growth rate within a year or two? Of course not, right? Is it easy to gain popularity on LinkedIn right now? Yes. Why, less than 3%, or roughly around 3% of the people on LinkedIn only post content, which means majority of the people don’t post content., they want more people to post content. Now, if LinkedIn had 30% of their people posting content, do you think you would gain as much followers and reach when you post your content? Of course not and why? Because there’s competition, they’re already getting what they’re looking for. So these platforms will encourage you really early on and give you what you want, but the moment they start doing well enough where they don’t need it as much, then they turn the little knobs and throttle it, so then that way they start making more money, but it doesn’t mean you can’t grow in marketing, you just got to get creative and that’s why in marketing, I think one of the best skillsets is creativity. Yeah, sure, you can read and learn, but if you can’t think outside the box, especially when everyone else is doing the same thing, you’re not going to do well. There’s so many people with more money, more employees, more resources, you got to really think outside of the box to win. So and what’s funny is, it’s like I know real estate agents who have done well purely because of LinkedIn. One of my buddies Todd, who’s in the mortgage industry has gotten quite a few customers from LinkedIn as well. Who’d ever thought though, right? You can end up getting business from these sites and these platforms, if you participate. A Step-by-Step SEO Strategy For Beginners | Getting Traffic With Old and New Websites [Video]

Starting with someone who has no SEO strategy currently, let’s start there. Do you think there’s a site-wide level of optimization that has to happen? Like, straight up title tag, meta tag, optimization of different queries on the site, an internal linking structure, and then a content marketing strategy on top of that to add value to the site, as a base level SEO strategy? Or what would you suggest to someone who, first level is they don’t currently have an SEO strategy, and then we’ll ask about someone who already does, and what they can optimize, but just base level, if you don’t have one, what do you do in today’s world?RESOURCES & LINKS: ____________________________________________The Biggest Impact on SEO: https://youtu.be/DKPT6vaWcWkSocial Media Strategies To Boost Your SEO: https://youtu.be/UlmlzJTBL8MUbersuggest: https://neilpatel.com/ubersuggest/____________________________________________You know, you can look at keywords, top pages, et cetera. But what I wanted to show you is this is the easiest thing. So you just click on Site Audit. Again, this is free. I don’t even capture an email straight up, this is just free. So you don’t have to put in an email to use it, and it’ll tell you everything that’s wrong. Pages, your score, your load time. And you can be like, “All right, “let’s look at my Issues, or Critical Errors.” And you can just go to all of them, and be like 31 pages have a low word count. And then you can to Warnings, and you can do the same thing. Two pages have duplicate meta descriptions. So what is it, right? So what is that, and how do I fix it?It just breaks down everything you need to fix, in priority, from how hard is it to implement, to how much traffic will you get by fixing them? So that’s the first part of SEO, right? It’s just like the lowest hanging fruit. The second part is all about keywords. So if I’m trying to target the keyword, marketing, and this is super effective, or digital marketing, right? And I use these tactics on my own site. To give you an idea, if I type in digital marketing, I think I’m like number one or two or something. Here’s all the paid listing, and I am the first organic listing. I do that for a lot of terms like online marketing. I’m up there somewhere. I’m number two. Funny enough, number one’s also my website. Although I sold it.But here’s a simple thing I do. It’s all about finding the right type of keywords, right? The way I find the right type of keywords is, one, you can just type in keywords like digital marketing, or whatever you want to target. Here’s my process. I go and I look for keywords, and I just click View All Keywords, and it’ll show me everyone who’s ranking, how many links they have, their domain scores, socials, et cetera. So I’ll go find keywords, and it gives me solid metrics. When I mean solid, as in non-opinionated metrics. Like the average webpage that ranks in the top 10 has 435 backlinks and a domain score of 49. So I know, is it going to be easy for me to get 435? Is it going to be hard? because I can have a rough idea of how many links I have. So I’ll just go through here, and I’ll find keywords. As you can see, there’s like 500 suggestions here. Here are some other related keywords I’ll post from our database. This has 30,000 recommendations. And then the last step when I’m trying to create content, after I find some keywords that are typically… I look for keywords that are high in volume, high in CPC, and I want to go after keywords that have a low SEO Difficulty. So that’s abbreviation of SD. It’s like digital marketing company has a high CPC, volume’s not bad, low SEO Difficulty, which means people are typing that in, me being an agency, probably a good keyword to go after, because it probably converts well if people are paying $17 a click. And the way you do this is you just create content. So there is a Content Ideas section of the tool, and it’ll show you all the content per country, so you can break it down by whatever country, or language, or region you want. And, technically, you can break all the reports down by that. And you want to look for articles that are somewhat popular, because it’s breaking down the social shares, as well as articles that have decent search traffic, as well as a lot of backlinks.
