Should You Create Different Memberships for Different Topics, or Put All of Your Topics Into One Membership?
As a Course Creation coach, I help experts create educational memberships – which is by far the most popular format of learning at the moment.
One of the most common questions I get about creating memberships is whether to create separate memberships for different topics or consolidate everything into one comprehensive membership.
Firstly, I do have a whole blog post of Membership FAQs that answers literally every common question about creating and running memberships here: https://sarahcordiner.com/your-questions-answered-faqs/
However, in this video I’ll answer this questions for you….
First – don’t overcomplicate your business.
Unless your topics are targeted at completely, wildly different audiences, who speak different languages, you rarely need to create different silos in your operations.
Libraries don’t have different buildings for each book category.
Think of memberships in the same way.
My ‘Legends Lab’ membership helps business owners scale globally, and there is everything in it from marketing, tech, product creation, confidence, astrology for success and much more.
If I created a different membership for each of those topics, I’d have the most complicated business ever.
Keep it simple.
When you have multiple memberships, you essentially double your marketing, administration, and the confusion among your students regarding which membership they belong to and which one they should join.
By combining your offerings into a single membership, you streamline your operations and make it easier for your audience to access a variety of content.
Think of It Like a Restaurant Menu
Consider your membership like a restaurant menu.
A restaurant doesn’t just offer one dish; it provides a variety of options to cater to different tastes.
One Membership, Many Benefits
Creating one comprehensive membership allows you to focus your energy on making it exceptional.
When to Consider Separate Memberships
If your topics are vastly different and cater to completely different audiences, it might make sense to consider separate memberships.
In such cases, you might even want to consider separate domains to manage them as entirely different businesses.
Platforms like Tekmatix can host multiple websites on multiple domains, making it easier to manage different memberships effectively.
Catering to Multiple Interests
Don’t underestimate your audience’s diverse interests.
People often have more than one area of interest, and a comprehensive membership that offers a variety of topics can keep them engaged longer. Think about platforms like Masterclass or Udemy, where you pay for access to a wide range of courses from coding, to art, to leadership to yoga.
This approach not only satisfies your members’ diverse interests but also enhances retention and personal and professional development.
TLDR (Tooo long, didn’t read….)
It’s usually best to combine your topics into one membership, unless they are totally separate businesses.
This simplifies your marketing, tech set-up, reduces client confusion, and allows you to focus on creating an amazing membership experience.
