You get a notification saying your package was delivered, but when you open your door, there’s nothing on your porch.

Provincial police are warning the public of these thefts by “porch pirates,” especially as the colder months approach and more people are shopping online for Christmas presents.

“As online shopping continues to grow, the opportunity for theft has risen significantly,” Caledon OPP said in a news release.

On Oct. 28, a resident on Bonnieglen Farm Blvd. in Caledon told police they came home to a package on their porch. They went inside for a few minutes and when they came back out, the package was gone.

CCTV video footage showed that around 4:43 p.m., an older model Honda Civic had stopped on the road and backed up in front of the house.
