There’s an overwhelming amount of misguided advice circulating about social selling on LinkedIn, and it’s time to set the record straight.
How do I know this?
Well, I’ve been using LinkedIn since 2011, practically living and breathing it. Not only have I successfully used LinkedIn to establish two thriving businesses, but I’ve also been offering my expertise as a full-time service since 2015.
But here’s the harsh reality: Growing your business, finding leads, and securing clients isn’t as simple as having an optimized profile, creating engaging content, sending messages (whether spammy or not), or even achieving killer engagement.
None of these methods alone can do the trick. The crucial missing piece of the puzzle is your business itself.
To make LinkedIn work for you, you must position your business effectively, and that requires thorough preparation.
I conducted my own survey, and the results were eye-opening.
Shockingly, only 7% of the businesses that approached me seeking help with using LinkedIn to find marketing-qualified leads could provide the following:
โข A Buyer Persona
โข A Value Proposition, complete with a detailed Offer and well-documented Value-Added Service
โข A Customer Journey Map that encompassed the Buyer’s Journey
โข An existing Marketing Journey Map
And this was just the tip of the iceberg in terms of the information I needed to design a Social Selling Roadmap for them.
To make matters worse, many of these businesses were active on LinkedIn but were achieving dismal results.
So, I decided to channel my frustration into something constructive.
