Amazon Canada plans to hire 15,000 new warehouse and distribution employees across the country this fall and is upping wages for existing employees, the company said Monday.
The hiring plans come at a time of significant growth for Amazon, which has benefitted from the boom in online shopping during the pandemic, and as employers struggle to hire hourly employees during the economic recovery.
Amazon Canada’s 25,000 existing employees will receive a bump of between $1.60 and $2.20 per hour, the company said. Its new full- and part-time employees will be paid between $17 and $21.65 per hour, and have access to benefits kick in on day one.
Currently, the highest minimum wage in Canada is $16 an hour, in Nunavut with British Columbia not far behind, at $15.20 an hour.
