Amazon creating 1,000 jobs at Nottinghamshire warehouse that will help manage renewed surge in online shopping triggered by lockdown

Amazon is creating 1,000 jobs at a warehouse in Nottinghamshire that will help it manage the renewed surge in online shopping triggered by lockdown. 

The American e-commerce giant began building a 1.75m sq ft distribution centre near the market town of Sutton-in-Ashfield last year. It is now taking on engineers and other employees for the site, which is the size of 22 football pitches. 

The hiring spree comes at a time when many other businesses are shedding staff. But when the plans were laid out last year it was hoped that Amazon would hire as many as 1,800. 

Yonatan Gal, of Amazon UK, said: 'We are excited to continue our expansion in the East Midlands, creating a further 1,000 permanent roles.
